Nature’s little gems are antioxidant rich and taste delicious. There are few other foods that offer as many different flavors packed with as many nutrients as berries do. From tart raspberries to sugary sweet strawberries and everywhere in between, berries are jam packed with powerful antioxidants.

Blueberries were once the most highly advertised antioxidant fruit around. It, along with acai berries, raspberries and blackberries are rich in an antioxidant that is known for fighting cancer and blackberries known as proanthocyanidins.

These same berries, along with strawberries also contain ellagic acid that has carcinogen fighting properties. Blueberries are also showing promise in helping to delay mental imparities that are associated with aging.

Moms around the world have been trying to get their children to eat their vegetables for hundreds of years. They have known all along that eating those rich, green vegetables was adding protection for the heart and other internal organs, even if they didn’t know it, they were still on the right track.

Most of the vegetables that are highest in antioxidants are brightly colored. Rich, bright greens, yellows, reds and orange colors in vegetables all signify high levels of antioxidants.

In addition to brightly colored vegetables are the cruciferous vegetables, such as cauliflower, broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cabbage. These can help prevent cancer and heart disease.

These vegetables contain an antioxidant called indole-3-carbibnol, an antioxidant that breaks down estrogen and in turn helps to prevent breast cancer and other estrogen related cancers.

Vegetable don’t have to be bland in order to be good for health. Roasting or steaming them with olive oil and spices makes tasty dish even kids will like.

Tomatoes are an excellent source of antioxidants and because they are used in so many dishes and other uses such as catsup and sauces, they are also highly available.

Lycopene, the antioxidant in tomatoes, is a relatively rare antioxidant that is twice as potent as beta carotene. Studies have already shown that men who eat tomatoes have a lower risk of prostate cancer than men who don’t eat tomatoes.

This finding has led to studies for tomatoes being able to ward off other cancers. In the case of tomatoes, the antioxidant powers are more powerful after cooking than they are before cooking.

The highest antioxidant foods are those that should be included in a healthy, nutritious diet plan. This plan will help keep the body protected from many diseases and from many of the signs associated with aging such as liver spots on the skin and wrinkles.
